I am a preschool Teacher from San Buenaventura University of Cali-Colombia (2000). With a postgraduate degree in Environmental Education from Universidad Santiago de Cali (2002). My academic formation is complemented with a diploma in the Teaching Improvement Program in Mother Tongue (2003), from the Universidad De Valle. Additionally, I have taken different courses such as the I Meeting of Philosophy and Environment (2001) of the Corporación Universitaria Autónoma De Occidente de Cali, and the attendance to the seminars carried out by the Colombian Chamber of Construction, called; BIOCASA Seminar, International Meeting of Sustainable Habitat (2003 and 2004). I also participated in the Intergenerational-Institutional Dialogue for the Co-Construction of the Education of the XXI Century at a Global Level. (2021) Delivered by Aula Tides EDUCATION & PROGRAMMING A SDGS ACTION 2030 AGENDA. And I received my Certification in Climate Change Education (2021), offered by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). I am also a wife and mother of two beautiful daughters.
My vision and my relationship with the planet generate in me as an educator, mother and as part of a society, a constant confrontation, the reality we live in these days pushes us to generate comprehensive initiatives where the triple bottom line (social, economic and environmental dimensions) become a transversal axis of our lives, and education must be that tool, that engine that allows aligning an individual and collective structure that brings us closer to aspects as important as they are to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or the 2030 Agenda, and the Paris Agreement on climate change. The relationship between these agendas and the United States (US) educational context is imperative, as it is one of the most influential countries around the world due to its participation in international trade and foreign direct investment, the composition of the population, and the type of highly advanced and industrialized economy.
With the Green Hands Education project I want to encourage innovative alternatives such as the creation of CoPs (child-friendly) so that children from 4 to 12 years old are direct participants and active managers of new models of thinking, bringing them closer to approaches such as circular economy systems, an indispensable aspect in this transformation process. A change that will also allow the generation of “circular jobs” for teachers and for many communities that are still considered unconventional, but no less important and more necessary than ever.
